Why a Seat Ibiza Replacement Key Won't Work

Remove the battery compartment cover on the key fob (A). With a flat-head screwdriver, or a thumb nail, pry the cover upwards, then replace the CR2025.
Dead Coin Battery
If your key fob isn't working and you haven't been in a position to reprogram it using a new code, then the most likely cause is a dead coin battery. Replacing this should bring it back to life again - you can do it yourself in under 10 minutes.
Start by opening the key from the side without the rings made of metal. There's a simple clip-on lid, which you can lever open using your nail. The battery that was in there can be removed via the hole in the middle. Note: Changing the battery in a wrong manner or using the wrong battery could cause damage to the remote key. Replace the battery with the same size, voltage and specifications as the original.
If your key fob was submerged in water you might also have to clean the chip prior to replacing the battery. Worn Buttons

Water Damage
The key fob comes with rubber seals that prevent water from getting into the electronic chip inside. This does not stop the occasional splash. If you've survived a wash cycle or swimming in the ocean your chip might be damaged.
This can be corrected by removing the battery, and cleaning the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Then, let it dry completely before returning it. If the chip is fried it must be replaced with a brand new one.
If your key fob does not work after changing the battery and programming it, then it could be due to a problem with the receiver module. This is the part in the car that receives signals from the key fob and transmits signals to the key ignition system. It can be tested by trying the spare key fob if you have one. The central locking should start to work and the ignition system light should come on. If this does not happen, the receiver module is not working properly. This is a costly fix but can be fixed by an expert from your local garage.
Radio Interference
If the car's radio seems to be acting erratically or the key fob not working it could be caused by an interference problem with the receiver module within the key. Seat parts can provide an alternative key with an entirely new receiver.
To replace the battery, remove the key and gently lift the cover of the key fob's battery compartment by using your thumb or a screwdriver that has a flat-headed head. Remove the CR2025 battery and replace it with a new one, making sure that it is in the proper direction of operation. You can also use a standard key that has the transponder chip transferred from the worn or damaged key. This can be cut and coded to your car in the event of need.
Faulty Receiver Module
The receiver module is the component in the key fob that transmits radio signals to your car. If the fob ceases to function it could be because the module has become defective. This can be diagnosed with an OBDII scan tool or by getting in touch with the dealer.
Other devices that use the same frequency could interfere with the remote keyless entry system. This could include wireless phone transmitters, electronic devices, and even some household appliances.
If the fob is exposed clean tap water, it may be possible to clean the electronic chip using isopropyl alcohol and paper towels. If the fob is submerged in salt or soapy water, or is sat on a floor that is wet for long periods, it will almost certainly cause damage and it is likely to need replacing.
To replace the battery on your key fob you will need a thumb nail or small screwdriver with a flat head to pry open the cover of the button cell compartment (B). Remove the battery that was in place. Insert a new CR2025 and ensure that the "+" direction is facing upwards.
